While scientists are exploring whether we, under pressure of climate change, could migrate to another planet, Brand Senses is not planning on leaving our planet any time soon. The eco-friendly communications agency takes position against the emergency flee: Fuck living on Mars!

Dimitri Barbe, founder and manager of Brand Senses, is not very enthusiastic about moving to Mars. Although he acknowledges that it will become “a technically feasible solution in the long term”, Elon Musk does not need to reserve Barbe a seat on his first flight to the red planet. “Fuck living on Mars”, is what Barbe thought when he first heard about SpaceX. The first seed for an inspiring book had been planted.

Today, Brand Senses sends out the first copies of the explicitly-titled book. Barbe is proud of what his team has accomplished: “All Brand Senses co-workers are aware and convinced of green brand experience. We want to share our vision with everybody who shows interest, and we want to communicate our message in a positive, understandable way. The book will achieve its goal if we can encourage a number of people, managers or consumers to reflect and to act.”

Fuck living on Mars is a collection of opinions from eco-minded business leaders. “We have made a selection of some established names from various sectors”, Barbe explains. “We also added a number of (very) young starters. They are all companies that really will make a difference in the future.”

Graphius CEO Denis Geers is one of the business leaders who have the honour of addressing the readers of the book. On its restyled website, Brand Senses even names the printing firm (albeit implicitly) as an example of a sustainable supplier to build a long-term relationship with. “We have worked with Graphius in the past and we are both members of sustainability network The Shift”, says Barbe. “When Graphius sent us their first sustainability report, we knew they would be the printing firm to print Fuck living on Mars for us. Because of the technical knowledge and vision, we wanted Denis Geers to have his say in our book.”

In addition to opinions, the book also presents a lot of facts. Troubling facts (Per year, an estimated 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the sea. That’s an average of 20,425 tonnes per day.) but also facts that can form a solution. As much renewable energy can be produced with seaweed production in the North Sea, as with ten to twenty years with windmills, for example. Brand Senses wants to indicate that we can still find solutions on planet Earth, or even that Earth reaches us solutions.

Brand Senses, in its turn, gives each reader the opportunity to contribute as well, in the form of seeds that are “planted in the book”. “We often use nature to link to sustainability. People are sensitive to green, flowers, plants, etc. With our book, we want to figuratively sow a seed. It’s really just a little extra to give our readers a literal blooming plant.” At Graphius, we have already planted the seeds for our night flowers!
