Sustainability

Graphius is committed to sustainable production.

At Graphius, we constantly strive to minimise our environmental impact and increase our positive contribution to society. Sustainability is integrated into our business strategy and we see it as our duty to play a pioneering role in the printing industry. We want to make the maximum possible contribution to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our sustainability efforts focus on environment, people and community, and are meticulously documented in our sustainability report.

Our sustainability report

At Graphius, we see sustainability not as a challenge, but as an opportunity. By being transparent about our efforts and by continuously improving, we hope to inspire others to join us in making a positive impact on our world. Curious about our sustainability efforts? Certification and Reporting

Every two years, Graphius reports in its own sustainability report on the state of affairs, achievements and challenges in sustainable entrepreneurship within and around our company. Our environmental coordinator closely monitors the evolutions of our environmental programme and determines our targets together with Graphius. We have been working according to the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards for years. Our sites in Ghent and Brussels are FSC©-certified (FSC-C014767) and we carry out annual audits to ensure that we comply with FSC standards. In addition, Graphius has a bronze medal in the Ecovadis Sustainability Rating.

Conscious choices in production

At Graphius, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to constantly reduce our ecological impact by making conscious choices at every stage of our production process. This ranges from selecting raw materials to optimising our production methods and dealing responsibly with energy and waste.

Our printing presses are equipped with an advanced measurement system that automatically registers and adjusts colours during the printing process. As a result, we avoid unnecessary proofs and save large amounts of paper and ink. This not only leads to significant cost savings, but also directly reduces our energy and material consumption.

With more than 3,350 solar panels on the roofs of our sites in Ghent and Brussels, we can generate 20% of our total electricity needs ourselves. This investment represents an important step in our energy transition and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. By producing our own green electricity, we reduce our carbon emissions and actively contribute to a more sustainable future.

For the part of our electricity consumption that we cannot produce ourselves, we consciously choose green electricity. This ensures that our purchased energy also comes from renewable sources. This combination of in-house production and sustainable purchasing ensures that a large part of our energy supply is climate-friendly.

Graphius records and sorts all waste generated during the production process. Paper waste is collected and returned to the chain to be made into paper again. Other waste streams, such as plastic, wood and chemicals, are carefully separated and collected selectively so that they can be processed in the most sustainable way.

Today, we have 18 different waste streams, which we are constantly refining and expanding. Our measurements show that 95% of our total waste is recycled. This high percentage shows that our efforts pay off and that we succeed in maximising the reuse of materials.

An important example of our circular approach is the aluminium offset plates we use in the printing process. These plates are collected by a specialised partner after use. They process the aluminium so that it can be reused in the production cycle. In this way, we reduce raw material waste and keep valuable materials in the cycle.

Our employees are the backbone of our success. We invest in their well-being, training and professional growth.

We offer opportunities to people from vulnerable groups and collaborate with sheltered workshops and prisons. Graphius employs people from 16 different nationalities, making our working environment rich and diverse. We have also employed refugees through individual vocational training programmes and offer them opportunities to gain sustainable work experience. In addition, Graphius offers a flexible and generous cycling policy for all its employees, rewarding them for their contribution to a better climate.

Sustainable Development Goals

Graphius is working intensively around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the future guide for sustainability by 2030. We believe that, as a company, we can make a significant contribution to achieving these goals. By being transparent about our efforts and by continuously improving, we hope to inspire others to join us in making a positive impact on our world.

Sustainability in the Group

Graphius is part of the Graphius Group, a family-owned company that is committed to sustainability. Our sustainability strategy is fully integrated into our business strategy and we see it as our duty to make a positive contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.
