A unique look into the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation's collection
Can art save the world? For Axel & May Vervoordt, the answer is a resounding 'yes'. After decades of collecting art worldwide, they thought it was time to share their passion. The result is A Search for the Universal, a beautiful art book featuring about 150 works from their foundation. The book oozes passion and is an ode to 'the small, minimal'.

Cooperation with Graphius
The first book we self-published, together with MER, part of Borgerhoff & Lamberigts publishing house, was Artempo, following the exhibition of the same name in 2007. It was obvious that the first art book would be printed at Graphius. A shared passion for art was the driving force for this.
Technical Specifications
A Search for the Universal is printed on two types of paper: Munken Polar 120 g/m², a silky smooth uncoated paper with a vibrant whiteness, and GardaPat Bianka 135 g/m², a high-volume matt surface. The endpapers are Muskat Brown 140 g/m².
The result is a 290 x 290mm yarn-stitched hardcover. The exclusive refinements and finishes make this work an absolute gem. The cover was covered in Van Heek natural linen and fitted with a subtle foil print. The rounded spine and matching capital bands add a finishing touch.
The photography in the book is stunning, with contributions from renowned photographers such as Jean Liégeois, Jean-Pierre Gabriel and Laziz Hamani. The collaboration with graphic designer Luc Derycke of MER created a book that exudes craftsmanship, passion and attention to detail.
